My Type — Child Safety Standards
Last updated: 9 October 2026
My Type has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). My Type is an app for adults aged 18 and over. Children are not allowed on it, and any content or behaviour that sexualises, endangers, exploits or abuses a child is banned and will be removed and reported.
1. Who may use My Type
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. Members state their age when they set up their profile, and the app does not allow a profile to be completed with an age under 18.
- If we learn or have reason to believe that an account belongs to someone under 18, we suspend or remove it.
- Members are only shown to, and can only connect with, other adult members.
2. How the app is designed to reduce risk
- No profile photos. Profiles are made of written answers only, so there is no public gallery of images.
- Consent first. A member can only message, call, or share images and videos with someone after that person has accepted their connection request. Nobody can message a member who has not accepted them.
- Block and report. Any member can block another member, and can report them, from inside the conversation.
- Phone numbers are not shared in chat, which keeps conversations inside the app where they can be reported and reviewed.
3. What is not allowed
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) of any kind, including images, videos, or text that sexualise a minor.
- Grooming, or any attempt to contact, solicit, or sexually communicate with a minor.
- Sexual or sexualised content involving, or appearing to involve, anyone under 18.
- Trafficking, or attempting to arrange the abuse or exploitation of a child.
- Creating an account while under 18, or helping someone under 18 to do so.
- Sharing, requesting, or linking to any of the above.
4. How to report a concern
- In the app: open the conversation, tap the ⋮ menu at the top right, choose Report, and select Child safety concern. You can also Block the member.
- On the web: use our Contact us form and describe what you saw. Please include the member's alias.
You do not need to be a My Type member to tell us about a child safety concern.
5. What we do when we receive a report
- Reports marked as child safety concerns are flagged for the My Type team to review first.
- We remove content that breaks these standards and suspend or permanently remove the accounts involved.
- Where we find or reasonably suspect CSAE, we report it to the relevant authorities, including law enforcement in Kenya and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline, and we keep the records the law requires us to keep for their investigation.
- We cooperate with lawful requests from law enforcement and child protection agencies.
- We do not tell a reported member who made the report.
6. If a child is in danger
Contact the authorities first. Do not wait for us.
In Kenya, call the police on 999 or 112, or the free Childline Kenya helpline on 116.
Then tell us using the steps in section 4, so we can act on the account.
7. Compliance
My Type works to comply with the child safety laws that apply to it and with the child safety policies of the app stores it is distributed on. We review these standards regularly and update them when our product or the law changes.
8. Contact
To raise a child safety concern or to reach the person responsible for our child safety practices, use the Contact us page.
