My Type — Privacy Policy

My Type is a platform that lets users discover, message, and arrange to meet each other. We are not a party to any arrangement, meeting, or transaction between users, and we do not vet, supervise, or control what happens once users leave the app to meet in person.

By using My Type, you agree that any decision to meet another user in person — and anything that happens before, during, or after that meeting — is entirely between you and that other user, at your own risk. My Type, its owners, and its staff are not liable for any injury, loss, dispute, financial harm, or other consequence arising from an in-person meeting, transaction, or interaction arranged through the app. Always take standard safety precautions: meet in public first, tell someone where you're going, and trust your judgment.

1. What this policy covers

This policy explains what information My Type collects when you use the app, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who creates an account. Profiles on My Type are text-only: there are no profile photos.

2. Information we collect

Account details: alias, email (never shown to other members), password (stored encrypted), and referral code, if any.
Profile answers: gender, what you are looking for, field of occupation, city, religion, income status, height, age, number of kids, marital status, highest education level, and a one-line description of yourself.
Payments: transaction records for your weekly subscription paid for through the app. We do not store your M-Pesa PIN or full card details — payments are processed by our payment providers.
Messages and content: chat messages, images and videos you choose to share after connecting, and call metadata, used to operate the chat and call features and for safety moderation.
Device and usage data: device identifiers, app version, crash logs, and how you use the app, used to keep the service working and improve it.

3. How we use your information

To create and run your account and show your profile to other members.
To process subscription payments.
To send you notifications about messages, requests, calls, and account activity.
To detect fraud, abuse, underage use, and violations of our terms.
To respond to support requests and legal obligations.

4. Sharing your information

We share information with other users as necessary for the app to work — for example, your profile answers are visible to other members, and messages are visible to the person you're chatting with. We also share data with service providers who help us run the app (payment processors, cloud hosting, push notifications, moderation tools), and with authorities where required by law. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

5. Age requirement

My Type is for adults only. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. We may ask for proof of age and will suspend or remove accounts we believe belong to someone under 18.

6. Your choices

You can edit your profile, hide it from Discover, and delete your account at any time from Settings. Deleting your account removes your profile and personal data from the app, though we may retain limited records (such as transaction history) where required for legal, accounting, or fraud-prevention purposes.

7. Safety

Never share financial or personal information you're not comfortable sharing, and report any user who behaves inappropriately or makes you feel unsafe using the report tools in the app. See also the "In-person meetups" notice above — it's part of this policy and applies to everyone using My Type.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll let you know in the app. Continuing to use My Type after a change means you accept the updated policy.
